TV vs. YouTube

Jeff Jarvis makes an interesting observation:
At the same time that Nielsen announces that the TV networks had their lowest ratings in recorded history — averaging 20 million viewers at a time — YouTube announces that it’s serving 100 million videos a day.

Insert apocalyptic punchline here.

Just read (in an ordinary paperbased newspaper), that in 1903 there were a climax of 1.16 billion picture postcards sent a year - today there are 1 billion emails sent a day only by Germany largest carrier T-Online.

We had the same with digital music and digital photography. This year global player Minolta announced the closing of its photography department after more than 100 years....

It's only a question of time till TV stations of old fashion are going down and professional on demand IPTV will rise to a common standard.

Personally, I do not believe that mass culture will vanish. I think it is diversity and variety within the main stream. Whatever, it is freaking interesting.
